Come to the aid of the disable


Voluntary organisations, even while working for the betterment of the marginalised sections of society, should come forward to extend all possible help and assistance to the physically challenged, especially those in the villages, to give them a life worth living, Governor Surjit Singh Barnala has said.

Addressing a function to mark the silver jubilee of a Palayamkottai-based non-governmental organisation here on Sunday, Mr. Barnala said that India had about 40 million persons with disabilities, including 1.80 million physically challenged persons in Tamil Nadu, who should not become victims of multiple deprivation, including education, as apprehended by a World Bank report.

“The NGOs, besides extending all possible help to the disabled to ensure a quality life for them, should create barrier-free environment and access to education for the physically challenged,” Mr. Barnala said........Click for more
