Madurai District Handicapped Welfare Association has thanked the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for introducing a slew of benefits for the differently-abled in the State's budget.
Hailing them as historic and would be a new dawn in the lives of the differently-abled E. Ayyappan, secretary of the association, in a release has thanked him by highlighting the measures announced by the State Government.
The association has expressed its gratitude for announcing that the State Government would look to amend the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 in consonance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities which includes nomenclatural change that was proposed by the UN to term the ‘Physically Challenged as Differently Abled.'
