Tuning Into the Lives of the Marginalised


CHENNAI: 107.4 FM offers no cine music or celebrity interview, but its programmes like Sattam oru Parvai and Anbudan Thozhi are a  hit among the marginalised sections. The community radio initiative by Loyola College, in its 10th year now, has close to 1,000 listeners tuning in from places like the slums of  Chetpet, Choolaimedu and Pushpa Nagar.

With the free distribution of 200 radios on Thursday, the college hopes to widen the reach of these programmes, which give voice to the unheard. Programmes on issues like alcoholism and child abuse have found listeners in marginalised sections like widows, women from lower income groups and people from the Narikurava community............Read more
