'Education Focused on Head, Not Heart'


CHENNAI: Learning. It’s a constant. And spirituality is that journey where one learns to live life and experience it — wise words of His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa, the leader of the 1,000-monastery strong independent Drukpa order of Buddhism. The spiritual leader asked the audience to think about one was missing out in the rat race, when he pointed out that most of us don’t spend quality time with our loved ones and instead prefer the company of objects like the television and the iPad.

He said there was a disconnect between our spiritual needs and what was being provided through our education. It is this disconnect, he said, that is the greatest problem of modern education.

“We have become more and more like robots. When children come back from school they go straight to their laptops or their iPads, there is no time to kiss mama or papa. Husbands and wives have no time for each other. They are tired after making lots of money,” he pointed out.......click more
