The interest in native varieties of rice, millets and pulses is on the rise. However, the knowledge to make delectable dishes from them is still at a nascent stage.
Nine friends have started ‘Nam Parambariyum,’ to fill this knowledge gap.
The friends are: J. Mohaneshwari and P. Manimekalai from T. Nagar; R. Karpagam from Besant Nagar; A.M. Malathi from Medavakkam; Subha Bharadwaj from Kotturpuram; P. Sumathi from Pallavaram; M. Shanthi from Palavakkam, SheelaVenkatraman from Chemmenchery and R. Jaya Prakash from Pammal.
All of them have green thumbs and that is the unifying factor. And of course, they can demonstrate preparation of traditional dishes from indigenous food grains.
And, they plan to conduct a food festival every month to demonstrate how to make these dishes....Read more
