It is not just surgery. The dexterity and speed with which a wound is sutured is as much an art as it is a life-saver. Extra force while tying up vital organs can damage tissues, while less pressure can lead to leaks. Now, a `bindi'-sized sensor can keep track of a surgeon's hand movements and the force applied while suturing vital organs manually.

A team from Centre for Medical Electronics, Anna University, and Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital has developed a sensor-based wireless device, where the sensor is taped to the surgeon's index finger.
