Child welfare panels yet to be constituted in 14 districts


The Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) are yet to be constituted in 14 districts, according to information elicited under the Right to Information Act.

In every district, the State government is required to establish one or two CWCs as per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000.

The Child Welfare Committee is the authority set up to dispose of cases related to care, protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of children.

According to a reply from the Social Defence department obtained by A. Narayanan, a social activist, through an RTI query, CWCs are yet to be constituted in Ariyalur, Perambalur, Karur, Nilgiris, Namakkal, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, Krishnagiri, Tirupur, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Tiruvarur, Kanyakumari and Pudukkottai districts.
