Her father passed away when she was doing an MA in Bhopal. Her family needed to be supported and that meant Chitra Rajan couldn't do a PhD as she was hoping. She moved to Chennai and started a software firm in 1988. She and her partner, who later became her husband, got good clients like Glaxo, Crompton Greaves and the United Nations.
