Release more Govt land for affordable housing

The Tamil Nadu Government should make land available from its land bank for affordable housing, for which there is a lot of pent-up demand in Coimbatore, says Mr Raj Natarajan, Chairman, Mint Homes, Houston, Texas, US.

He said the realty market in Coimbatore was coming back and expected the recovery here to be faster than in other markets.

Speaking to Business Line, he said in the Coimbatore market (his first project in the city would be completed in about six months), he expected a “large growth” to take place in the segment that is “competitively priced” — in the Rs 2,000-2,500/sq.ft price range. The size of apartments would range between 800 sq.ft ( two-bedroom) and 1,000 sq.ft (three-bed room) and the cost of these “nicely built, quality homes” could be around Rs 20-25 lakh. He was himself looking seriously at the affordable housing projects located about 10-12 km away from the city centre..........Click for more
