In a bid to prevent 'fake' cow vigilantes from indulging in extortion and violence in Karnataka, Sangh Parivaar organizations have offered a simple solution: They want the government to issue "official" identity (ID) cards to genuine cow protectors, treating them as "informants".

"The VHP and Bajrang Dal are in no way connected with the lynching incident in Udupi. We don't resort to killing people,'' VHP South India organizing secretary Gopalji said.

He said it's time the government takes a cue from Gujarat and Haryana and starts issuing ID cards to distinguish between genuine and fake cow vigilantes. "Our cow protectors' job is just to inform police to stop any cow smuggling or cow slaughter," Gopalji added................Read more
