Is it the symmetry, the colour scheme, or the strokes— what is it that gives paintings by Shefali Bhatnagar the distinct look that tells you they are all by her?

“It is my signature style,” she smiles and shows you what she means. “Every speck of white you see in the paintings (all watercolours) is not white colour but the white of the paper sheet on which the painting is made.”

You look again and spot every white trace in the paintings, an exhibition of which was inaugurated at the Rashtriya Lalit Kala Akademi gallery in Aliganj on Tuesday.
