Textile minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar has reiterated his demand to make non-vegetarian cooking an optional component of the hotel management course, writing yet another letter in this regard to human resource development minister Smriti Irani and tourism ministerMahesh Sharma.

ET had first reported on June 26 that ministers and members of Parliament belonging to BJP are trying to build consensus on whether students must necessarily learn non-vegetarian cooking as part of hotel management courses.

Gangwar, along with MPs ranging from veteran LK Advani to the Yuva Morcha chief Anurag Thakur, had shot off letters to Irani and Sharma in March and April, urging them to look into the demand of vegetarian students, who want non-vegetarian cooking to be made an optional component of the course.

In his latest letter to Sharma, dated July 1, the textile minister said, "As on date, the degree and diploma courses in hotel management and catering are gaining a lot of potential and, therefore, I would not hesitate to suggest that curriculum of these courses should be such so that the pure vegetarian students should not be restricted to opt for career in this field due to mandate of non-vegetarian food training as mentioned in my earlier letter dated 4th March, 2015.".............Read more
