The Directorate of Town Panchayats has asked its local bodies in the city suburbs to take measures to improve the groundwater quality.
Director of Town Panchayats, K. Maharabushanam, during a recent visit to Perungalathur near Tambaram, urged officials to look at viable options to improve the groundwater level as well as prevention of contamination of lakes, tanks and ponds and also instructed officials to prepare project reports.
The local body’s executive officer M. Kesavan said it was suggested that grey water from homes be treated before it drains into lakes.
A survey has been completed on the location of treatment plants for treating grey water at their source and eight locations were identified. “A private agency has been chosen to prepare a detailed project report for installing treatment plants and their operation. Once they submit their report, it will be placed before the Directorate for their administrative sanction and the work will commence soon,” Mr. Kesavan said..........Read more
