Dadar and Sion are the most noisy areas in Mumbai, reveals traffic report

Areas in South Central Mumbai are the noisiest in the Mumbai city, as per the latest figures released by the traffic police department.

Stretches of Sion and Dadar along with the areas of Wadala and Dharavi have been earmarked as being the most noisy. The high decibel levels have been attributed to unnecessary honking near schools, colleges, hospitals, residential colonies and places of worship.

The traffic cops have registered over 4,708 cases of excessive honking and noise beyond permitted level since June this year in the South Central region, collecting fines up to Rs 4.29 lakh. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Anil Kumbhare said, "These areas are centrally located and thus several heavy duty vehicles are seen on the stretches. Noise levels are high at many junctions and crossroads in Dadar and Sion area. Most cases that have been registered are for excessive honking, installation of loud horns and other illegal modifications to the vehicle that cause noise pollution."...........Read more
