“You can link any subject to Sanskrit”


Situated within the Madras Sanskrit College campus in Mylapore, the Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute has been promoting Sanskrit and Indological research for the last seven decades. The Institute was established in memory of Sanskrit scholar and savant Mahamahopadhaya professor S. Kuppuswami Sastri.

The institute draws many people for the rich collection at its library. Nearly 60,000 rare books in many Indian and foreign languages, some of them palm leaf manuscripts, are available.

“Our doors are always open to anyone seeking information from the ancient texts,” said K.S. Balasubramanian, deputy director, KSRI. He says the institute has helped many scholars of architecture, medicine, law and astronomy in taking up research. “You can link any subject with Sanskrit,” he said.
