Unique experiment by a theatre group a runaway hit in Karnataka

The hands that once brandished machetes are holding brushes, playing with clay and essaying roles of Gandhiji, Basava and Ceaser on stage. This is thanks to 18 years of effort by the theatre group Sankalpa with jail inmates.

Over 30 theatre experts have trained jail inmates across Karnataka in various sections of theatre over the last 18 years, says Hulugappa Kattimani, who heads Sankalpa and believes in the transformative quality of theatre.

Sankalpa has now decided to take its activity a step further by setting up of a part-time theatre repertory for those who have already been released and for those who are ready to be released from jails................Read more
